You've also got in Tanner a well-written nonbinary jerkass, whose assery has nothing to do with being enby. So that's neat! Cos most pieces featuring nonbinary characters make a big deal out of the nonbinary-ness and maybe even angelify it. That, or it's queer-coded as evil and degenerate or immature.

Thanks! My journey has lead me to understand that queer people are just… people. Sure, there’s nuance to our experience and there is no real “look” but in the end, some hot enby playing the field might bear little difference compared to their cis male counterpart. I’m glad it turned out as a positive jerk, so to speak.

Positive representation is tricky, right? It's easy to overdo it in some way or another or to accidentally perpetuate some societal pathology. But it's a worthy challenge! 😊

Yes. Tina will probably see Tanner again. They’re too smooth not too.

How often do you return to characters in short fiction?

There’s one I want to return to called “Gravity” where two characters meet at an event and are pulled together. I wanted to see them further down the road where they’re still in that love whirlwind.

Here’s the story: https://medium.com/prismnpen/gravity-a95265b3e1c4
